Parental Visits
When coming to school for any reason, for safety reasons, parents are asked to stop at the office and ask for assistance.
- Parents are asked not to disturb classes while they are in session.
- Classroom visits are allowed with prior administrative approval.
- The school office personnel will get your child for you. Do not go to the classroom yourself to get your child.
Visitors are also welcome and must abide by school rules. Visiting students may attend classes upon advance approval from the teachers and principal.

Medication/Health Information
Medical Appointments
If it is absolutely necessary for a child to leave early for a medical appointment, a written request must be sent to the child’s teacher in advance.
No child will be released to anyone other than those authorized in writing by the parent.
Medication Policy for Prescription and Non-Prescription Medications
- If a student must take any medication at school, (prescription or non- prescription) the parent or guardian must turn it into the office.
- A Maranatha staff person must supervise the taking of any medication.
- Please attach to the medication (prescribed or non-prescribed) a note giving the school the student’s full name, the name of the medication to be given,
instructions on when and how much to administer to the student.
- No student is at any time to possess any medication on his or her person. If a student does possess, give, or sell medication to another student, or take
or buy from another student disciplinary action will be taken and suspension may occur.
Medical Emergency Procedure
At the beginning of each school year all students are asked to fill in the information on an “Emergency Card” which includes the name and phone number of the
doctor to be notified, as well as the name, address, and phone number of the parents and an alternate person to be notified if the need should arise. It is
the responsibility of the parent to see that this information is on file. In case of serious illness or injury this information may be used before consultation
with the family if this is felt necessary.
Communicable Childhood Diseases
Upon having the following diseases, a child must have written consent from either a physician or the Health Department to return to school, or be subject to
school office approval for re-admittance:
- Chicken Pox, Measles, Mumps, Pneumonia, Whooping Cough, Pinworms, Scabies, Ringworm, Impetigo, Pink Eye and Head Lice.
We also ask that parents inform the school as soon as they have knowledge that their student has contracted on of these diseases. It is important that we let
other families know they may have been exposed to these illnesses.

Attendance Policy
Parents and guardians are legally responsible for education of their children and wards. Maranatha Academy is committed to providing teachers every
school day as required by law. We expect parents and guardians to be sure that their students are present whenever possible.
Students who are sick or running a high fever should remain at home and should not be sent to school during the illness. Cooperation in this matter is
fully sought for the health and welfare of all students.
Regular attendance and punctuality are required of every student. Attendance at school provides a student with the classroom experience. This experience
is composed of participation in class activities and direct instruction conducted by the classroom teacher. The instructional program designed by each
teacher is a progressive and sequential experience. It is generally impossible for that experience to be “made up.” For this reason, failure of a student
to attend class will be seen as a serious problem and will not be allowed.
Excessive absences affect student’s grades and could place his/her promotion in jeopardy. A student who is absent over 20 days for the course of the school
year, (10 days per semester), whether excused or unexcused, may require summer, or other outside-of-school make-up time to be promoted to the next grade.
Unexcused Absences
An unexcused absence is one taken without just cause or prearranged permission.
- All assignments are still due but no grade higher than a 70% may be earned. Work must be completed in the same amount of time that was missed.
(i.e. if one day is missed, one day is allowed to make up the grades in).
- Tests and quizzes must be made up outside of class time. No grade higher than a 70% may be earned.
Tardiness
Tardiness disrupts the entire class in addition to affecting the late arriver’s school routine. PUNCTUALITY is a virtue that is a part of Maranatha
Academy’s character building program. Parents are urged to assist in making sure that students are prompt in arriving and departing school. Students
who are tardy to school are to go to the school office to obtain the class pass and to sign in. Three unexcused tardies will result in one unexcused absence.
Students Arriving to School
From 8:01 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. will be counted tardy.
From 10:31 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. will be counted 1/2 day absent.
From 12:16 p.m. or later will be counted 1 day absent.
Students Leaving School
From 8:01 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. will be counted 1 day absent.
From 10:31 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. will be counted 1/2 day absent.
From 1:00 p.m. or later (after 3 times per grading period will constitute 1/2 day absence).
Absence from School Procedure
Parent/guardian is to call the school office the day of the absence by 8:15 a.m. Parents should indicate how they will get assignments for the day. If
contact is not made by phone the day of the absence, it is the responsibility of the student to bring a written excuse to the teacher. BE SPECIFIC in your
note. Give dates and reason for the absence. General statements may result in the absence being classified as unexcused. If for some reason the note is
forgotten, the student is to bring it the following day. Failure to bring a written excuse the second day after the absence will result in an unexcused
absence.
- Days are recorded as either half or full days. Tardiness will be marked as indicated below and three tardies will equal a half day.
- Any student arriving late at school or that leaves the school for a portion of the day, must report to the school office both upon arrival and at
departure. Parents picking up elementary students for appointments are asked to come to the student’s room to pick them up.
Excused Absences
- Excused absence are given for sickness, doctor appointments, and a death in the immediate family.
- Pre-approved excused absences are allowed in unusual situations.
- A request for an unexcused absence should be made by the parent in the form of a personal visit or phone call to the Principal explaining the need
for the absence. This should be done well in advance of the planned absence.
- If the absence is approved by the Principal, the office will issue an assignment sheet that the student is to take to the classroom teachers requesting
that the student be given assignments to do his work in advance. Some tests and quizzes, at the teacher’s discretion, may need to be taken upon return.
- If the assignment is not turned in on time, the teacher should give zero’s for all subjects and at this discretion, may assign extra work to be done
outside of class.
- It is the student’s responsibility to see the teacher about all tests and make-up work regarding such an absence. Parents need to assist students in
the lower grades.
- Parents must also realize that if they are requesting that their student be released from school for their convenience, they should make it their
responsibility to assist the teacher in the extra work that this causes.

School Day Dismissal
School Grounds
Students must remain within the school boundaries during school hours, unless accompanied by their parent, or arrangements are made by the parents and the
school is notified.
Please note that students will not be allowed to go home with another student unless the teacher or office has been so informed. These arrangements should
be made in advance so students are not asking to use the phone during the day to ask permission of parents for such visits.
After School Student Rides and Supervision
School is dismissed each day at 2:45 p.m. Elementary students riding the bus are escorted to their buses by the classroom teacher. Students who are picked
up by their parents remain in the classroom until the parent comes for them. Parents must enter the school through the front door ONLY. High School students
report to homeroom at the end of the day and are excused from there to go to the bus or wait in the school for pickup. Drivers will not be dismissed until
after the second bell.

Lunch
Each student must bring a noon lunch from home. Milk may be purchased at school. Milk money will be collected the first Monday morning for the full
month. (Milk is ordered for a month at a time. Students are not allowed to purchase milk only occasionally or for a few days a week). The price per
carton is $0.15. Hot lunch will be available only if there is a volunteer to make it. You will be notified a week in advance if this is to happen.
Please do not send food with elementary students that needs to be heated. Students do not have access to the kitchen and when they need a noon aide to
do this for them, it takes them away from their job. High School students may microwave food, but should keep in mind that there are only two microwaves,
and it may take some waiting time. Students must bring their own containers for such use.
